Done.
Tried to get this update done earlier, but alas, the thunderstorm which centered over us for a while this afternoon took out the internet access. For those of you who are following the saga of the Bear's Retreat Aventure, I now provide an update:
We closed on Bear's Retreat today -- a remarkably smooth transaction, over the last weeks and today. Now we get to mess around with Stuff, most of which we're planning on sending someplace else: trash, Goodwill, other people's garages (after accepting money from them at garage sales), eBay.*
While we're finishing up the summer and doing a few things to the house, we won't be actually moving in -- by which I mean sofas, beds, books -- but we had lunch and dinner over there today, and walked around and discussed where the blender might live, and whether or not the china cabinet would fit in the kitchen.
And took pictures, which I would share with you, if Blogger were behaving, which it's not. I'll write to them, they'll write back, this will get fixed, and eventually I'll show you some of the inside of the house.
In the meantime, though, we found an example (and not so very far away -- it's in Monroeville) of a log house which was built exactly as the original Bear's Retreat was -- the McCully House. When the 1840 owner expanded Bear's Retreat, he took off the two-storied porch, and built the brick addition onto the old foundation. You can see the old logs going out into the brick on the outside of the house.
Now, I think, I'll go have a little rest.
And maybe even do some needlework (which I haven't done in about a month).
*************************
*Tell you what, knitters who are still hanging around, now that the blog no longer lives on the Knitting Ring: I'll give you a heads-up when the Alice Starmore stuff hits eBay. Or the Kaffe Fassett.
