Blog Maintenance

Well, after a day wrassling the blog template -- which, for me, is much like the experience I have when I try to find restaurants in Paris -- that is, I know enough of the language, alas, to get me into some Real Trouble, whereas if I knew nothing I'd be better off, and not trying to eat dinner in one of those scary places where the food represents solely the cuisine of one little corner of France, and it's the one you didn't want to go to.

Which is why, now, if you click on the links in the sidebar labeled "A Few Entries I'm Fond Of," and "Sweaters From the Past," you will get to actual blog entries, instead of template nonsense.

I think.

At least, it was that way a bit ago.

Also, except for the oldest entries, the pictures ought to be working, which they weren't, which is how this whole thing started.

Cause the pictures on some of the older entries went down, but not all of them, and when I asked Blogger Support what had happened, they told me that I had the wrong addresses for the pictures. Well, when did the addresses get changed, I asked, cause I didn't change them. Which question they did not answer, but I went and changed as many of the addresses as I could find anyway. This was weird, cause sometimes the addresses would be working but then they weren't, when I clicked back.

(I had that exact same experience once in Paris, and I never did find that chocolate store that was Right There a few minutes before I turned around....)

Anyway, I'd been successful -- at least, I think I'd been successful -- at making the pictures reappear, so I got all uppity and thought I'd make titles show up in the archives.

But that didn't work, no matter what I did, and I did several things, believe you me, and I even saved the first template, which is around here someplace, and now we have archives on the main page, but the links don't go anywhere. Also, if you try to link to the PermaLinks you will be disappointed by finding only gibberish.

So don't do that.

But in the meantime, now that the pictures are up, you can amuse yourself by readmiring "St. Brigid," and "Setesdal,"as well as going back to those great old standby essays, "Don't Touch This," and "Not Beach Wear."

And for those of you who are discomfited by the lack of working archives and permalinks, I'm sorry. I'm having some trouble reading the map. But everything will be just fine, if I can only run across a gendarme......
