Excellent Time Had by All
We've been doing laundry and putting things away and going and buying low-fat-high-fiber food at the grocery store, and it's been a high old time. We're WAY cheerful. The child is still plowing through his books, as is Sam. I finished mine. I've been getting a lot of knitting done -- more than I've been able to do in quite a while. I'm working on my nice red "Cecily of York," which I'm doing in some of that Scottish Heather that's so long discontinued. This still grieves me; it's one of my all-time favorite yarns.
Here's what couldn't get blogged till after Sam had opened it up on Christmas:

Another Ab Fab throw, this time in the "Versace" colorway, which you will notice is Very Bright and Striking. All the other Ab Fab throws, as put together by the folks over at Colinette, are subtle and misty. This is not subtle, nor is it misty. It's the in-your-face Ab Fab throw. Sam's very proud of it.
I myself received lovely things -- books, bath stuff, tea and cookies -- AND my stepchildren (having taken me seriously when I said that for my Christmas presents I wanted everybody to send money to various progressive organizations and give me envelopes at Christmas telling me what they did) have donated money in my name to a couple of interesting places, and therefore I am in them well pleased.
One place is WAGES (Women's Action to Gain Economic Security), an organization out in the San Francisco Bay Area which, its brochure tells me, "helps Latina women establish environmentally sound housecleaning cooperatives in the greater San Francisco Bay Area." I am SO chuffed by this. I spent some years in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area cleaning houses, and on account of NOT using environmentally sound products I still can't breathe right.
I mean, I wasn't breathing so great to begin with, but all that bleach really tore up my lungs further. So, with that and the allergies -- well, no wonder I wheeze some these days.
So that was very exciting. Another place that has been sent some money is a Pittsburgh concern -- AnimalFriends, a no-kill animal shelter on the SouthSide. Some of the beloved cats in the extended family have been acquired at this shelter, so that's a nice connection. Excellent choices. I told them I've got the same Christmas list next year. LOVED my presents.
And speaking of no-kill animal shelters, our little household is very proud of Maggie the Cat, Girl of the Streets, because, despite the blandishments and maulings of two little children who didn't know her well, including a 19 month-old person who considered her to be a superior form of stuffed animal, and joyously shouted "Mah! Mah!" every time he saw her, Maggie Absolutely Refrained From Whacking the Children At Any Point, Ever, and if we had a medal, we'd give it to her, but as it happens, all we have is some leftover Christmas ham.
What's that, Maggie? Oh, Maggie says that'll do fine.
