Cherry-Dips
We're having a noble experiment here, but it's not going so very well, cause though I am blogging at the moment, I'm doing it by means of an ethernet connection that the lovely students downstairs lent me, and not through the modem connection which I'd REALLY like to work when I get to England, but which isn't working now, though maybe it's on account of some secret code I need to get out of the dorm room, which I haven't figured out yet.
I'm in New York. It's lovely. The food is great. The dorm room we're in, at Columbia College, has, alas, been made out of cement blocks, but that's business as usual.
The child is quite impressed with New York already. He's been taken on the subway down to Times Square, and though the subway isn't so very impressive to him (he prefers the London Tube), Times Square couldn't have behaved better for him -- BIG lights. BIG signs. LOUD sirens. GREAT sidewalk dancers.
Also, he was allowed a cherry dipped soft serve ice cream, which looked like something one might be forced to eat in hell, but which he adored.
Now, I better go to bed. I can tell I'm just THIS close to staying up till 2 AM trying to get the modem to work. Which it won't, cause if I can't do it now, before I'm semicomatose, I'll never get it going later. Best to wait till morning. I might be struck with inspiration.
